Sally Canzoneri’s artist’s books have been shown in the 9th Wexford (Ireland) Artists Book Exhibition, in An Open Book Exhibition, at Gallery West in Parma, Ohio, and at The Pilgrim’s Gallery in Washington, DC. She was a contributor to the ISCA Quarterly’s 2003 Annual Bookworks Issue. Two of her books were in the Bright Hill Press 3rd North American Juried Book Arts Exhibit. Another book is currently in The Reader’s Art – 2007 at the Susan Hensel Gallery in Minneapolis. Her books and articles have appeared in dog eared magazine.
Ms. Canzoneri has taught creative writing, book and paper arts to children at the Fillmore Arts Center in Washington, DC, and at various summer and after-school programs. She is particularly interested in how book arts can encourage literacy, and has developed innovative projects that use book making to develop children’s writing. Her work in this area was recognized when she was chosen to become a member of the Children’s Book Guild of Washington DC in 2006.
Ms Canzoneri also teaches a variety of book arts classes for adults. She was selected to conduct a workshop in connection with the major exhibition, Book as Art: Twenty Years of Artist’s Books at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Ms. Canzoneri is a freelance writer, publishing articles for both children and adults.
In 2004, she was admitted to Hedi Kyle’s book arts workshop at Haystack Mountain School. Ms. Canzoneri has also studied illustration at the Corcoran School of Art, and taken paper art and bookmaking classes with Diane Mauer-Mathison, Maureen Cummings, Keith Smith, and Scott McCarney.
In some “former lives” Ms. Canzoneri was a city planner and a litigating attorney. She received a B.A. from Bennington College (1971) , and a M.U.P. (1976) and J.D. (1979) from the University of Illinois. Sally Canzoneri lives in Washington, DC with her husband and daughter.
